[00:00:00.19]
have you ever tried to remove a pair of
pedals from a bicycle when you find out
[00:00:04.30]
that they're really stubborn

[00:00:06.01]
maybe because they're rusted in place, over
tightened, or maybe they have the this
[00:00:11.77]
funny angle when you put the wrench on
and every time you try to loosen the
[00:00:15.13]
crank turns? to make matters worse a lot
of pedal wrenches have the wrench
[00:00:22.63]
openings at 90 degrees to the handles
like this one which make for some
[00:00:27.28]
awkward and weird angles when you go to
try to put the wrench on the pedals to get
it loose.
[00:00:35.59]
maybe after wrestling for a while you
do get it loose and you hit your
[00:00:40.78]
knuckles on the chain ring of the chain and
get skinned knuckles!
[00:00:45.43]
well in this video I'm going to show you
a quick, easy, and simple way to get the
[00:00:51.52]
most stubborn of pedals off any bike, any
time. This works on both the left
[00:00:56.62]
and right sides obviously. It will work
with a regular 15 millimeter wrench like
[00:01:01.39]
this one or if you have a pedal wrench
work with that as well.
[00:01:05.56]
now this method is only going to work on
pedals that have a wrench flat area on
[00:01:11.59]
the spindle like this BMX pedal. It's not
going to work on on some mountain bike
[00:01:15.91]
pedals and road bike pedals like this
old xtr pedal. it has no wrench flats and
[00:01:21.19]
requires therefore an eight millimeter
allen bit to remove. i'll show you guys
[00:01:26.53]
how to do that in a future video. in this
video I'm going to use just a regular
[00:01:32.71]
15 millimeter craftsman open end wrench.

[00:01:35.41]
ok the first thing we're going to do
here is put the wrench on to the pedal
[00:01:40.21]
spindle like so. The next thing we're
going to do is rotate the crank backward
[00:01:46.54]
to where the wrench is at least somewhat
parallel with the ground. now what we're going
[00:01:52.42]
to do is brace the bike with the handlebars.

[00:01:54.85]
put your foot on the pedal. the front
part of your foot under the ball before
[00:02:00.10]
it actually in a position is if you are
going to ride the bike.
[00:02:03.91]
next, take your heel and step down with
your heel on the wrench and kind of step
[00:02:11.29]
back into it. apply your body weight with
your heel to the wrench and still apply
[00:02:18.31]
some weight to the pedal itself to the
flat part and bear down with it and it
[00:02:23.05]
should loosen now as you can see.

[00:02:32.63]
that's all it took. this method will work
with the most stubborn of pedals whether
[00:02:40.16]
or not you have a pedal wrench

[00:02:42.47]
note that on some pedals this area may
not be wide enough for wrench like this
[00:02:49.94]
in which case you will need some sort of
a narrow wrench. 15 millimeter
[00:02:56.09]
pedal wrench pedal wrench is usually are
and have narrow jaws to fit in tight places
[00:03:01.10]
like this but on most bikes as long as
they have flats for wrenches you can use a
[00:03:06.71]
wrench like this.
