Turkey Leg Hut is a feel-good story that feels very Houston. Holmes and Price started the business in 2015 in the parking lot across the street from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. They sold large, tender turkey legs with comfort-food staples like mac and cheese, Creole corn and dirty rice. Within three years, they had a brick-and-mortar and celebrities, including Snoop Dogg, Megan Thee Stallion and James Harden, giving them shout-outs. The success of a Black-owned business also resonated with the community. Turkey Leg Hut established itself in an area known for its deep ties to Black history in the city, and it also gave back, from holding block parties to hosting COVID-19 vaccine clinics while also offering discounts for those who chose to get shots during the height of the pandemic.
