The Duty Of Your Pastor
II Timothy 4: 1 - 5

What is a Pastor? A pastor is a man who has been called or anointed by God to watch over and take care of God’s people. He has been gifted by God to deal with God’s people just as a good shepherd would take care of a flock to which he has been assigned. The pastor is considered the “spiritual guide” or the “shepherd of souls”.

He possesses one of the four giftings of leadership that Jesus sent back from God as Paul states in Ephesians 4:11 where he said, “And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.” He has not only been gifted by God, but he has also been sent by God as Romans 10:14,15 tells us, “...and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?...” (Not sent by man or school, but sent by GOD!)
--God said in Jer. 3:15, “And I will give you pastors according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”

*I want to be perfectly clear about this: Just because you may have the title and the position in a church, doesn’t mean that you have been gifted or called by God! Just because you may be able to impress a crowd with your big words and just because you have 10,000 folks following you, doesn’t mean that you have been gifted or called by God to be a pastor.

Just because you have gone to Seminary and taken all kinds of classes in Hermeneutics and church administration, doesn’t mean that you have been gifted or called by God to be a pastor. (And I’m not saying that one should not go to school to become more knowledgeable in the word or pulpit etiquette, I’m saying that your calling or gifting is not “YOUR” choice of profession, but it’s God’s choice!)
