Sweeping changes to Hong Kong's 51-year-old stock market benchmark will take effect in June. The new rules are to ensure the Hang Seng Index reflects the changing make-up of the biggest firms in Asia's third-largest equity market. The number of constituent firms will be increased to 80 by mid-2022, from the current 52. It will rise again to 100, although no timeframe has been given. Twenty to 25 Hong Kong firms must remain on the index, to ensure local representation.
