Jecksel makes a triumphant return to the Steyoyoke imprint with this masterful and hauntingly atmospheric, EP, “Niflheim”. This carefully crafted ethos brings about a sense of suspended animation ensnaring the senses and compelling the listener into a dreamlike state.

The voyage commences with “Niflheim”. Crafted around soul-stirring horn leads and a dark penetrating bass groove, the title track sets the broody ethereal tone. “Einherjar” is a microcosm of this anthology where the EP absolutely takes full flight. Bounding through interwoven regretful horns, the lush soundscapes have you yearning for the reemergence of the sacred and grounding groove. The conclusion of the EP, “Nordland”, is a highly textured breaks tune with detailed emotive atmospheric pads wrapped around a heartbeatlike poly rhythmic groove; softly easing the listener back into reality.

Jecksel’s “Niflheim” EP takes the listener on a weightless journey through wistful and boundless empyreans only to beam them to the shadowy and familiar depths of purgatory. Steyoyoke and “complex simplicity” at their finest.
