On April 14th-16th 2023, we spent 3 days and 2 nights climbing and splitboarding Mount Tyndall for my 30th birthday. This is one of the more remote 14er's in California. It was a total of 25 miles and and 9,000 feet of elevation gain/loss, half of which was with 60+lb packs. Getting up Shepherd's pass was easier than expected and getting up the North Face of Mt. Tyndall was more challenging than expected. The North Face seemed steeper than what was depicted from the guide book and the snow was very firm/variable. Fortunately we were able to tag the summit and make it back to basecamp safely. We had a blast at camp, making a huge fire pit and fun sleeping quarters. There were massive avalanches in about every canyon/gully and some were of historic size. This made getting in/out a little more challenging, but getting out on the last day went smoother than expected. This was the 11th out of 15 California's 14ers for me and plan on tagging the last 4 soon!!
