About Dr. DeFronzo
Dr. Ralph A. DeFronzo is a globally recognized clinician–scientist whose work on insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes has defined modern diabetes research and treatment. His contributions have been central to major therapeutic breakthroughs, including foundational work on metformin and the discovery of SGLT2 inhibitors. He has been honored with the Lilly Award from the American Diabetes Association and the Claude Bernard Award from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. He currently serves as Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Diabetes Division at the University of Texas Health Science Center, as well as Deputy Director of the Texas Diabetes Institute in San Antonio.
