I have been wanting to go to more cave's. I haven't been in many. This is probably the first time I have been in one like this that allows you to actually walk in and explore for a while. The ones I have been have been more like a room.
I have heard of Cave of the Mounds growing up and recently it was recommended to me to check it out. I am glad I went, it isn't a ridiculously huge cave. It seems perfect for those with smaller kids. If you have issues with small spaces this cave stays pretty open, only one spot really narrows but it is still a few feet wide. The staff are very nice and helpful. The cave is lit pretty well, only a few areas are darker. No wildlife will jump at you or anything creepy like that either, the only life in it are a few water insects. The water is incredibly clear. It is a "living" cave which means formations are still growing so nobody is allowed to touch the walls or anything. This is so the oils on our skin do not repel water that is needed for the formations to grow.

right now with covid they do require masks since the cave is not ventilated, it is an enclosed system.

it is an amazing place with plenty to do. The gift shop is nice too. They have gems, fossils, books, and Cave of the Mounds merchandise.
