Today, we are turning the tables on a classic cocktail!

The New York Sour is one of my favourite cocktails as it’s simple enough to be easy to make, but complex enough to allow for some experimentation and creativity! I got the idea for this cocktail from my pal David Edwards, from Booze on the Rocks, and once I saw it, I knew I had to try it!

The creativity here comes from not having a float of red wine up top, but rather from having a layer of port wine at the bottom of the glass. Because port has more sugar than red wine, it’s heavier, and will sink, rather than float, in the cocktail.

Normally, I would not have ice in my whiskey sours, but due to the port being at the bottom of the glass, having a large ice cube actually helps make sure you get some of the port in each sip, rather than a big hit of it at the end.

Reverse New York Sour Cocktail Recipe
60ml Whiskey
30ml Lemon Juice
30ml Sugar Syrup
1 Egg White
2 Dashes Angostura
1 Dash Orange
Shake and strain into a rocks glass with Ice
Sink 15ml of Ruby Port to the bottom of the glass
