But all the money in the world couldn't compensate for the fact that McQueen was a deeply troubled celebrity who spent the first fifteen or so years of his life as a victim of abuse. As a teen, he only ever found any escape from his toxic home situation was through a life of delinquency. This probably isn't the same Steve McQueen that most people remember, but it's the only one that ever existed. Sometimes the truth is a hard pill to swallow.

McQueen later joined the military before discovering his penchant for acting in the 1950s. For the next few decades, McQueen was one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood. Sadly, mesothelioma took his life in 1980.
