Exilus Adapters come in two different flavours, the Warframe Exilus and the weapon Exilus. Both serve the same function which is unlocking a specific slot solely used for ulitity mods.
Exilus Adapters are one use items and only one can be installed on any single given Warframe or Weapon.
Weapon Exilus currently can be used on primary and second weapons but not melee.
Unlocked Exilus slots can have their polarity changed with forma but they can not be switched with other polarity slots.
Weapon Exilus Adapters are sometimes called "wExilus".

0:14 Warframe Exilus Adapters Acquisition
A single Warframe Exilus Adapter can be bought from the market for 20 platinum.
One built Adapter will be awarded after completing the quest: Natah.
One built Adapter will be awarded after completing the quest: A Man of Few Words.
The reward caches of Daily Tribute Day 150 and Day 450 include a Warframe Exilus Adapter.
They are rare (gold) prizes in the daily sortie reward pool.
Blueprints can be obtained from Cephalon Simiaris for 50,000 standing each.
Blueprints can be obtained from Teshin's Conclave selection for 75,000 standing each.
The blueprints can also appear as a rare invasion mission reward.
Built Adapters are a some what common Twitch drop on the Warframe Devstreams.

A single Weapon Exilus Adapter can be bought from the market for 20 platinum.
Blueprints can be obtained from any of the 6 syndicate factions for 75,000 standing each.
Blueprints are the top prize on all 4 of the current requiem relics.

1:26 How to install Adapters
Simply clicking on the Exilus mod slot will open a confirmation box in which you are asked if you want to fuse the adapter to the selected Warframe or weapon.
If there is no adapter present in your inventory a dialog box will appear and prompt the purchase of the needed Adapter for 20 platinum.

Weapon Exilus; 25,000 credits, 2 Forma, 1 Argon Crystal and 1 Orokin Cell.
Warframe Exilus; 25,000 credits, 1 Forma, 1 Exceptional Sentient Core and 1 Orokin Cell.
Both Adapters take 23 hours to build and 10 platinum to rush.
