"But when Charles was questioned again, his statements were no longer the same. This time, he claimed that David was a bad person and accused him of sexually assaulting his daughter, Jill. According to Charles, Kim found out about everything David had done to their daughter, which led to an argument between the two. In a fit of rage, things escalated. Charles said he handed over the gun and left, but soon after, he heard sounds of an argument coming from the house, followed shortly by rapid gunfire. Then, David allegedly came outside and started shooting at him as well. However, since Kim and the others were found dead in the garage, Charles' account doesn't match up at all. When the police investigated further, they found a sweatshirt in the garage that matched the DNA of Charles' ex-girlfriend, Marla. During questioning, Charles claimed the sweatshirt was used to plug an oil leak in his car. When the police brought Marla in for questioning, she said that on the evening of September 28, Charles told her he was going to work, but he returned home past midnight with scraped knees. She also mentioned that he brought back a gun she had never seen before."
