Geopolymer Solutions - Our Mission To Improve Carbon Footprint

Combating climate change must come unanimously across all industries for any substantial counteractivity to the adverse effects to be enjoyed. “All of us have a responsibility, including Geopolymer Solutions, to make continuous changes to improve our carbon footprint” speaks Rodney Zubrod, President of Geopolymer Solutions, on the necessity to protect the resource longevity of the environment. And while there is a perception of cement production as creating a significant impact on the environment. “Currently, as compared to Portland Cement, our carbon footprint is about 93% lower than Portland Cement, which is profound.”

A material as ubiquitous and essential as concrete, “the second most used material on the planet”, it’s essential the processes behind it are kept as environmentally respectful as possible. Geopolymer’s method helps keep these environmental damages from the production process minimal, positioning itself as the future of concrete despite being a technique that has been used for years. “Geopolymers leased hours cold fusion concrete is a silicon dioxide or glassy chemistry that's perceived as a new material in the industry. Despite the fact that the Romans, the Egyptians, and the Hindus used a rudimentary form of geopolymers”, reveals Zubrod.

This glassy chemistry provides a material that can withstand the test of time. Senior Geopolymer Chemist Joaquin Longoria tells “when you look at glass 4000 years from now, 8000 years from now, that same glass is going to still be there. And the reason being is that majority of it, the main components of it is silicon dioxide, CO2”. This comes amongst multiple other benefits that separate Geopolymer’s product from the typical Portland Cement offering. “Four of these main advantages are the fact that it can be done in a single lift application versus the competitors' products at most of them. And many of them have to be done in multiple lifts, meaning that it could take two-three days to achieve the full thickness where the p250 can be installed in a single day, single lift application”, shares Rob Hoffman, Fireproofing Manager for Geopolymer. “The other advantage is that it does not require any mechanical attachments like the competitor's geopolymers that FP250 chemically bonds directly to the structural steel, reducing the man hours required for the installation, which reduces the safety exposure hours for the fireproofing applicators”.

The solution is able to go even further than simply reducing carbon emissions and bolstering structural integrity; Geopolymers are able to utilize waste products that would otherwise pollute surrounding areas when disposed of. “All of these products produce waste, cold fusion, concrete uses all of these wastes in the concrete. Not only are the products that we produce have elevated quality as compared to Portland cement concrete, but they use all these industrial wastes. A really good example is red mud” says the GP President. “Red mud is beneficial in our technology. It doesn't reduce strength. It doesn't reduce longevity. It actually enhances the technical characteristics of our material”.
