Padmavathi Temple is the temple dedicated to Goddess Padmavathi or Alamelumanga, the consort of Lord Venkateswara. The temple is situated in Tiruchanur, Tirupati. The temple is under the administration of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Sri Krishna Swamy Temple and Sri Sundararaja Swamy Temple are sub-temples within the Padmavathi Temple. This temple was built by Thondaiman Chakrvarthy who was a brother of Padmavathy Devi. It has temple tank and believed that Goddess Padmavathi manifested in this Tank in golden Lotus flower.

This temple is located 5 Km from tirupati bus stand and 4 Km from railway station.

Once upon a time Sage "Bhrigu" thought that he should give the benefit of penance to Shantha Murthy, so he went to Brahmaloka, Kailayam. Enraged by what happened there, the sage went to see Tirumal. Thirumal pretended to be deep in sleep. Unaware of this, Sage Bhriku kicked Tirumal on the chest. But he thought that Thirumal Muni's foot had slipped. Angered by this incident, Mahalakshmi came to Bhuloka. Mahalakshmi, who came to earth, disappeared for 12 years and did penance.

At the same time, Agasarajan was plowing a plot of land to perform a yagna in order to prevent him from having a child. Lotus has the name "Padmam" and hence Agasarajan named the goddess "Padmavati".

Some devotees say about Goddess Padmavati

1) Padmavati, who was incarnated in a lotus, was incarnated as "Vedavati" in Vishnu's Ramavatara. She begged Vishnu to marry her and lived as a celibate. Ravana, mesmerized by her beauty, was drowned in fire because of the Vedavadi's hair garden. After killing Ravana and rescuing Sita, Rama performed Agnipravesam on Sita. Sita and Vedavadi came out of Agni. Vedavati asked Rama to marry her. But Rama said that in this birth Ekapathinivirathan, therefore, I will incarnate in Kaliyuga and marry you. Therefore, he incarnated as Padmavati in Kaliyuga.

2)Mahalakshmi, who came to earth, disappeared for 12 years and did penance. In the 13th year, a divine voice asked that Pushkarani should be dug on the banks of Swarnamukhi river. She incarnated as Padmavati on a golden lotus at the center of Pushkarani.

Although the Puranas tell the story of the incarnation of Padmavati differently, Goddess Padmavati can be said to be an aspect of Mahalakshmi.

Vishnu came to Bhologam in search of Mahalakshmi. Lord Vishnu wandered around the Seven Hills in a state of trance. At last he came to the ashram of "Vaguladevi". Vaguladevi who gave Perumal the name "Srinivasan".

When Padmavati and Sreenivasa fell in love, Vaguladevi wanted to get both of them married. Since Padmavati is the daughter of the king, Srinivasa has taken a loan from Kubera and said that he will repay the loan till the end of Kaliyuga.

After the marriage ceremony, Akasharajan said that I have given everything in this world to my daughter as Sridhana. For that, Vaguladevi asked if there was "curry leaf and kanakambaram" and some devotees say that due to the blessing that came, Goddess Padmavati stayed in Thiruchanur. So even today curry leaves and kanakambar are not used in tirupa. Some others are also said to have asked Tirumal for the boon that Goddess Padmavati would bless the devotees from Tiruchanur once Mahalakshmi settled on Vishnu's chest.

Even today, Lord Srinivasaar is believed to visit Tiruchanur Padmavati at night via the Alibiri Path Yatra from Tirupati Hill and return to the hill in the morning to bless the devotees.
