The Vidor Police Officer Association is once again hosting its annual Blue Santa toy drive, bringing holiday cheer to children who might otherwise go without gifts this Christmas. Detective Bre Fischer explained that Blue Santa acts as "Santa's helper in law enforcement," providing toys to over 200 kids each year.

Local stores like Walmart, which display Santa stockings, encourage community members to participate by purchasing unwrapped gifts. These stockings contain gift suggestions, and participants can bring their purchases to the toy drive on Dec. 1 at the Gould Community Center in Vidor from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Alternatively, gifts can be dropped off at the police department.

Detective Jeff Courts, who also plays Santa Claus, shared the joy of seeing children's faces light up when they receive their gifts. "It's wonderful. Very fulfilling," he said.

For those unable to shop in person, monetary donations can be made to the police association, or gifts can be purchased from an Amazon wish list and shipped directly to the police department.

The toy drive deadline is Dec. 1, but gifts will be accepted until the following week to ensure timely delivery to families. The Blue Santa program, supported by the Vidor Police Department, continues to grow, with officers actively gathering toys and engaging with the community to make the holiday season special for all.
