Research on the role of inflammation in health has grown considerably in the last decade. In the broadest sense, inflammation is a response to injury, irritation, or infection, and is designed to target, destroy, dilute, and isolate harmful agents and then coordinate the process of healing and repair.

Acute inflammation often occurs in the form of redness, heat, swelling, and pain, whereas chronic inflammation is a bit different. It occurs over weeks, months, and years and has been identified as the underlying cause of many disease states. Chronic inflammation can stem from adversity during early life development, environmental toxins, alcohol and drug use, poor nutrition, and more. in this video, we are talking about chronic inflammation.

The immune system regulates the inflammatory cascade. Along with many other roles, immune cells are a primary source of cytokines, which are immunomodulating agents. Common examples include interleukins (IL) and tumor necrosis factors (TNF), which can be evaluated through a blood test. And there are several ways to reduce the inflammatory load throughout the body, including stress reduction, improved sleep hygiene, movement, and of course, improving your eating patterns and food choices.
