A large brush fire started on the side of Laurel Canyon Blvd at a homeless encampment. The fire quickly spread since gas tanks were exploding. The wind picked up and spread the fire to 4.5 acres before LAFD was able to call a knock down on the fire. The freeway which was adjacent to Lauren Canyon was completely smoked out from the fire creating a lot of traffic. Lauren canyon was closed due to the fire.

Update Forward Progress Stopped Brush Fire; INC#1119; 03:39PM; 11800 N Laurel Canyon Bl; https://bit.ly/3MbD12t; #Sylmar; Despite varied wind, well coordinated LAFD ground and air operations have stopped forward progress of the fire at 4.5 (four-and-one-half) acres of grass and light-to-medium brush east of and adjacent to the northbound Golden State (I-5) Freeway north of San Fernando Mission Boulevard. No injury. No structures involved. No evacuation. Laurel Canyon Boulevard will remain closed in the immediate area of the fire until LAFD operations are complete. No ETO. Travelers should avoid surface streets in the immediate area and consider an alternate route.
