For many people around the globe, the regional impacts of large-scale climate change have become increasingly apparent in recent years, often in the form of more frequent or more extreme weather events like wildfires or hurricanes. However, for some populations, there has not been a perceptible shift in the weather or climate patterns they have experienced over the last several decades. Why is this? How can scientists really conclude that climate change is a human-driven, global problem if the impacts are felt so unequally? In this presentation, I summarize the leading, data-driven evidence that climate scientists use to attribute climate change to human activities. I then discuss how climate models are used to confidently declare that climate change has "arrived" at a particular location, and how differences in this timing from one region to another may impact people's overall political will to enact effective environmental policy.
