Sitaare Zameen Par Movie Review by Sucharita Tyagi - Yes, every genre cliché imaginable is in Sitaare Zameen Par, include the line, “main inka coach nahi hoon sunita yeh mere coach hain”, followed by an emotional over-the-top court-side epiphany speech as a match draws to a close, “jinka dil itna bada ho unmein koi kami kaise ho sakti hai”. The beats and dialogue are predictive making the bigger plot largely uninteresting. Sunita, is Gulshan’s wife, played by the extremely beautiful Genelia D’Souza. Sunita aspired to be an actor, but gave up because she married Gulshan. She is seemingly the perfect wife, and life partner, not particularly conspiratorial or threatening. Sure she might help Gulshan black mail a business owner and completely abandon character for a whole scene, but because the character is written only as an accessory to Gulshan’s life, it doesn’t matter.
The stars of Sitaare Zameen Par, are without any surprises, the titular Sitaare. Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, the particularly impressive Ashish Pendse, Samvit, Simran Mangeshkar and Aayush Bhansali are truly incredible, stealing each scene they’re in. I don’t say this with condescension, but these actors really DO make you forget you’re watching a Hindi film with Aamir Khan in it. RS Prasanna does such an incredible job directing them, Aamir Khan sort of blurs in the background and the film’s true intention comes forth- its desire to ask you to pay attention. Having spent some time with the Parents Of Down Syndrome association in Mumbai, I have met Rishi and his wonderful mother on occasion –this man who plays Sharma ji in the movie is an Olympic medal winning swimmer
