Hey, Y'all! We are Justin and Lil plus four kids and one on the way! Just over a year ago, we moved our RV to 18 acres of raw land, built a solar power system, and started living off the grid. Now we are building our dream house (by hand), together as a family, completely off the grid (no public utilities).

In this video:
Last week, after a year and a half of living off the grid with no issues, our do it yourself (DIY) solar power system went down, leaving us dead in the water, and bringing our house build to a grinding halt. One of our EG4 6500EX inverters was malfunctioning and throwing an error code (F90), which wasn't even listed in the EG4 trouble shooting manual! We quickly contacted Signature Solar tech support and spent a few nights trouble shooting into the early morning hours.

Never fear, Justin is here. We rewired the RVs to run off the working EG4 inverter, rewired the well pump to run off one of our portable generators, since it requires 240V, and we fired up our Chargeverter 5000 to keep the batteries topped off at night and during the rain. Living off the grid means there is no one else to call when the lights go out, but we were able to limp along with half of the solar power system, even with visitors running a whole second RV.

Since upgrading the firmware on our EG4 Inverter did not resolve this issue, Signature Solar honored the warranty and sent us a refurbished replacement. This week, we replace the defective inverter and get our solar power system back up so we can stop running our backup generators and get back to the house build. Join us and come learn how to do it yourself!

In the meantime, like any good off-grid preppers, we have a stash of propane and gas cans for backup in case of emergency. We made lots of runs to the gas station to keep our gas can army well fed.
