Some time before lockdown we took our first Cruise on Kipper heading for a night away at an harbour we have never visited before further up the Pembrokeshire coast. While only 25 miles or so away it was still far enough for us to try our hand at a proper passage plan. But to spice things up we went via the famous Jack Sound. A treacherous tidal race between the west coast of Pembrokeshire and the SSSI and Nature reserve of Skomer Island. The race is bestrewn with hazards and the grave yard of more than a few dreams. In Part one of this adventure we encounter some bumpy old seas as we make our way toward Skomer Island and a vital tidal window.
