Rising Above: Loreto Rumbek - a school in South Sudan

"Rising Above" is a film that unveils the story of Loreto Rumbek, a school in South Sudan that defies the odds, providing education and life skills for young girls, empowering them to break free from the cycle of early and forced marriages and embrace a brighter future.

Established in 2008 in South Sudan, Loreto Rumbek Primary and Secondary School educates girls from ages 5 to 20. The Primary Health Care Clinic was established in 2016 and in 2020 moved to a purpose built building from where it serves the wider community providing general health services, vaccinations, health education programmes, mother and baby clinics and nutritional education.

Loreto Rumbek School, is one of many Loreto schools and colleges worldwide to have been founded by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM).
