Ether Vapor Remaster is a gorgeous cinematic shoot'em up with beautiful graphics, diverse sound, stunning music, and great gameplay. It's one of my favorite shoot'em ups I've played, along with Einhander and R-Type Final. Like Einhander, the graphics are in 3D, but the gameplay is mostly 2D.

There are three weapons you can use in this game, and you can switch into Gatling, Winder, or Lock-on. The gatling gun shoots forward, but it deals good damage against strong enemies, while the Winder shoots like a spread shot, but it doesn't deal as much damage as the gatling gun. The Lock-on locks into enemies and fires homing lasers at them.

These weapons can also be charged up. The gatling gun becomes a piercing cannon, while the Winder becomes a force field, which nullifies pretty much every obstacle in the game. The Lock-on becomes a blue-rinse bomb called a cascade. To charge a cascade, switch to Lock-on and don't press anything until the gauge fills up, then press the Lock-on button again.

Additionally, the game will prompt you to enter a Multi-Lock-on mode halfway through stages, which is essentially a bonus stage for you to blast things out of the way.
