In this brief video, I share my thoughts on using spices while following a carnivore or keto diet. Spices are concentrated forms of the plants they come from, so if a plant is high in antinutrients like oxalates, the spice derived from it will contain even more. Using even a small amount of such a spice means you're consuming a significant amount of that antinutrient. Therefore, it's important to think carefully before using spices. Some spices, like oregano, basil, and white pepper, are low in antinutrients, while others, like turmeric, cinnamon, and black pepper, are very high in oxalates. I recommend googling the antinutrient content in spices to decide which ones you want to use. Many carnivores do use some spices, but the safest option is just plain, healthy salt. It goes great with everything, and we need salt in our diet.
