The Mask | POEM

It is all too easy to become bamboozled by the masks of authority: police, teachers, lawyers, priests, these are all just roles people play, just an persona we embody and act out for a while.

Because underneath the uniform, the authority, the status, is just another frail and fallible human; someone desperately clinging to the mask they are wearing, hoping that it will give some semblance of security in an ever changing and dangerous world.

This poem highlights the potential for absurdity and abuse from those preaching religion towards those of us who, in reality, are only slightly more conscious than a monkey.
