The fallen officers, in what was described by the DA as a "brutal ambush", have now been identified during a press conference Thursday.

District Attorney Tim Barker stated that an unnamed Northern York County Regional Police detective and detectives Cody Becker, Mark Baker, and Isaiah Emenheiserwere all shot at a home on the 1800 block of Haar Road on Wednesday along with a member of the York County Sheriff's Office.

The day before, Barker stated Ruth had been stalking his ex-girlfriend's home on that road using binoculars and camouflage while hiding in a cornfield.

The ex-girlfriend's mother contacted police but, when they arrived at the home, that’s when Ruth's ex revealed he had previously set her vehicle on fire and showed law enforcement trail cam footage that identified Ruth.

She told officers they dated for a short time and that he never was in her home nor was he invited inside. A friend of the family told CBS 21 the woman had only been seeing Ruth for roughly 2 weeks before they broke up.
