Choosing Large Fruit-Producing Shrubs for Food Forest Design: Great Choices, Cautionary Tales

Yesterday I went over my top 4 mid-sized shrubs in my food forest. Today, let's look at several of the LARGE fruiting shrubs I use in my food forest design: some were great choices, two are recommended with reservations, and one is an "I wouldn't plant this again in my garden." Let's look at the benefits and limits of each and how they work in the context of my food forest design.

Eleagnus multifora - Goumi
Sambucus - elderberry
Aronia - chokeberry
Prunus Bush Cherry - "Carmine Jewel" or the "Romance" series (I do NOT recommend Nanking, fruits are small with larger pits)
Rosa rugosa
Sea Buckthorn
Highbush Cran
