Edith and the Kingpin - Jaco Pastorius bass-line

Описание к видео Edith and the Kingpin - Jaco Pastorius bass-line

Edith and the Kingpin by Joni Mitchell on Shadows and Light [Live] with Jaco Pastorius on bass. One of the hardest things I’ve attempted to play. I assumed he was hitting all sorts of crazy notes all the time, so I figured out the notation and tab. Surprisingly, he hits root notes (including octaves) more than 50% of the time, fifths ~20%, sevenths ~10%, and sixths 5%. He hits seconds, thirds and fourths only ~3% of the time and adds only one or two ninths, elevenths and thirteenths each. He clearly knows when to play each note at the right time.

Marcus Miller Sire v7 alder body. D'Addario Chrome flats XL 132-45. Bridge pickup with tone fully on. Action low for mwah. Mids boosted a little. Touch of Logic chorus and reverb (MXR pedals if live). No compression - it dulls the dynamics required for this.

Compare the bass tone with the following video where light gauge La Bella Gold White Nylon Tape Wounds were used, offering more mids.
