Recently Linux Mint Announced their Linux Mint 20.2 “uma” version and today their beta version is available to download and test, we all know Linux Mint is best and user-friendly operating system for windows switchers, Linux mint 20.2 “uma” is based on Ubuntu 20.04.2 version which was providing stable and classic usability with cinnamon 5.0 (official Linux mint flagship) desktop environment.

Linux Mint 20.2 “uma” also works great with their mate 1.24 version and Xfce 4.16 version community version, (personally I’m prefer Linux mint cinnamon version), version 20.2 comes with rock solid stability with lots of bug fix and including some new apps like Bulky File renamed, which was used for bulk file rename

brand-new app as part of Linux Mint’s XApps initiative, called Bulky (a.k.a. File Renamer), which can be used to bulk rename files. The Bulky app is available in the Cinnamon and MATE editions, since the Xfce edition comes with a built-in file renamer in the Thunder file manager.

Linux Mint 20.2 also comes with an updated Warpinator app updated nvidia-prime-applet package that features support for computers with AMD/NVIDIA hybrids graphics.

Linux Mint 20.2 "Uma" is to be delivered in the summer, as main developer Clement Lefebvre announced in the May report . He also announced a preliminary release by mid-June, which is now available. As expected, it is based on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS "Focal Fossa" and Kernel 5.4 LTS. The desktops are Cinnamon 5.0, Xfce 4.16 and MATE 1.24.

Cinnamon 5.0
Cinnamon 5.0 was released in early June, the other two desktops are already well behind. Cinnamon 5.0 brings improvements to the applets, desklets, extensions, and themes known as Spices. It also comes with a command line tool called cinnamon-spice-updater that can list and apply available updates for Spices. A memory limitation mechanism should prevent the memory from filling up. In addition, the handling of Flatpak applications was expanded after Linux Mint decided against the use of Snaps.

Warpinator upgraded
Warpinator, the application for exchanging content between computers in the network, now allows the selection of the network interface. Hopefully Warpinator will work when using a VPN. A new setting for compression, if it is activated on both computers, should make transfers up to 3 times faster. Starting with Linux Mint 20.2, a new app called Bulky is supposed to facilitate mass renaming of Cinnamon and MATE. Xfce is left out here, as its Thunar file manager already has the corresponding functionality. The file manager Nemo receives a content search.

The beta for Linux Mint 20.2 "Uma" is on the download portal of the Mint project to download ready. As a preliminary version, it is not yet suitable for productive use. The stable release is expected this summer.
