Based on the second Oz book written by L. Frank Baum, this adaptation was brought to the stage by playwright Thomas W. Olson, songwriter Richard Dworsky, and lyricist Gary Briggle, and performed at the Children's Theatre Company and School of Minneapolis.

I myself watched this tape over and over as a kid; between this and the iconic 1939 Wizard of Oz film (which I also watched over and over), it was probably inevitable I'd develop an Oz hyperfixation.
