The lesson begins with the main riff, which is a super easy three note guitar lick on a single string. It has a hammer on and pull off but we can simplify it and play just the hammer on and it's actually quite beginner friendly that way. We practice the riff and then work our way into the verse which will require some chord shapes and some strumming.

The chords are: A, Dm, C, F. I go over several tips and tricks for switching between these chords faster and easier. We practice them using downstrokes only so that we can get used to the switching and then we add the strumming pattern.

The strumming pattern for this one is based on the most common strumming pattern ever but there's a couple of slight variations. The biggest difference is the use of a muted stroke. This adds some percussion to our strumming and involves three steps to do. We work on all the motions, bit by bit and then we put the entire strumming pattern together with our chord progression and play the verse.

The chorus uses one additional chord shape the C sharp power chord. This is a three note chord and it's not too hard to switch into it. The challenging part will be muting the excess strings. We work on the chords and then add the strumming.

Next we learn the alternate version of the chorus where, instead of strumming, we play some scales. This will make it sound a lot more like the original recording and is great if you have a friend to play with. One of you can play the strumming the other one can play the scales. We work our way through it all and then we discuss some odds and ends like the ending solo and we play through a pretty big chunk of the song to give you a really good idea of how everything goes together.

If you'd like to practice the entire song with me, there's a full playthrough available on my Patreon page, where I play through the entire song, start to finish. More information on that here:   / 64272678
