Clayton Nyiri (Marine Sciences, ’25) is a student at the University of New England studying spiny dogfish.

Clayton's research is focused on developing an electronic bycatch reduction device (BRD) that will admit electrical signals to deter spiny dogfish and other sharks away from the bait of fisherman. Under the mentorship of professor John Mohan, Ph.D., several students like Clayton are working to pilot this novel method of preventing sharks from ending up as bycatch.
