"Sketches from I-40 W" for Saxophone Quartet (Score Video)

Program Notes:
The initial sketches for this piece were written while I was traveling with my partner during a road trip from Athens, Ohio to Los Angeles, California in early 2023. This trip took me through many U.S. states that I had never been to before, however the ones that struck me the most were the states in the American Southwest: Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Growing up on the east coast, I had never spent much time in other parts of the world, and spending four days on the road where I got to experience unfamiliar landscapes and seeing places that I had only read about was a breathtaking experience. I had never seen lands so flat they stretch out as far as the eye can see, and I had never seen mountains made of rock and sand that tower sharply across the horizon.

Sketches from I-40 W is a musical storytelling of the indescribably beautiful lands off of Interstate 40 and Route 66 in New Mexico and Arizona, and a musical scrapbook for a trip I will never forget for the rest of my life.
