I think I'm going to use it as a platform for random thoughts, podcasts, and other things that don't neatly fit into instructional poker content, chess, or music. Maybe I'll put music here, too. So yeah...

Poker players have been talking a lot about reducing bad behavior in poker. Magic players have been talking about racism in their game. Maybe poker should take a look at racism, too. The casualness and frequency with which people racially profile their opponents when discussing hands is frankly quite absurd.

If you tell me that you can get a better read on how someone plays from their nationality, race, gender, or age, than I can get from observing how they play a few hands... I don't know what to tell you. I think you're fooling yourself and setting yourself up to get rolled by the people who don't fit your lazy stereotypes.

Look, on its own, this isn't some horrible behavior that compromises the integrity of the game and ruins everyone's poker experience. I know many people have to deal with much more flagrant bigotry, and I hope to hear more people talk about their own experiences - negative and positive.

But I do think this is something that makes the game less pleasant for many people, and makes the world a little less like the one I'd like to live in.

Poker can be an extraordinarily positive game, as it draws together all sorts of people who might not sit with each other for hours at a time under any other circumstances. Let's just try to treat each other a little bit better.
