NOTE: I found clear packing tape worked better than electrical tape because it is a little thinner. And the measurements of the tape do not need to be precise as long as it is not too wide to fit in the slot. Finally, after about six months the tape fell out. I only noticed because my iPad stopped charging again. I just popped in a new piece of tape and it's as good as new.

NOTE2: If a single layer of tape does not work, try adding a second layer. I had to to use two layers of packing tape on my iPad 2. Now it charges perfectly!

Does your charger cut in and out when you try to charge your iPhone or iPad? This video will show you how to fix it!

Are you having a problem charging your iPad or iPhone with the Lightning connector? The Lightning connector is the one used on newer iPhones starting with the iPhone 5 and fourth-generation iPads right up through the current models. Does the charging activity start and stop when you wiggle the wire indicating that the connection is a little loose? If so this video offers a free easy-to-do solution.

First, especially with iPhones that spend a lot of time in linty pockets or purses, make certain that there is no lint or dirt inside the little hole where you plug in the charging wire. Try blowing into the hole or very gently fishing around inside it with a toothpick or plastic twist-tie to remove any collected foreign matter. You can also inspect the hole with a flashlight and a strong pair of eyeglasses or a magnifying glass to see if it is clear of dirt or obstructions.

If this first step did not solve your problem – and it didn’t solve mine – here’s what to do next. We are going to make the connection a little tighter by inserting a small piece of tape into the Lightning charging female connector hole on your iPad or iPhone to make it just a little more snug. I used electrical tape but you can try another kind. Scotch tape or a thin clear package tape might work just as well.

Remove the case if you have one on your device. Cut a tiny rectangular piece of tape about half an inch or one and one quarter centimeters long and just under one quarter inch – about half a centimeter – wide. It needs to be narrow enough to slide into the charging slot without hitting the sides. With your device face down on the edge of a table with the charging port facing towards you place the tape sticky side down lengthwise into the hole about one quarter inch. Wrap the quarter inch of tape that remains outside the hole around curved edge of your device down towards the screen. Use either the Lightning connector or a small paper clip or something similar to press the tape down inside the hole so that it is sticking to the screen-side of the charging receptacle. Then gently insert the Lightning connector all the way in to make sure it fits snugly but not too snugly and also make sure that when you insert it the tape is not being pulled completely inside and bunching up.

My iPad now charges completely without cutting in and out every time. I hope this video solved your problem too! Note: if you click on an affiliate link I someimes earn a few cents. Thank you!
