Azure Moon: The Musical - The Ashen Demon (original lyrics)

Scenario (Chapter 10): After confronting Jeralt's killer, Solon kills her instead to unleash a forbidden spell, sending Byleth to eternal darkness as her students watch with horror...

HOO BOY I GOT A LOT TO SAY ABOUT THIS ONE! The first inspiration for this was ‪@Cutelilpineapple‬ 's take on "Profound Ties that Bind" (   • Azure Moon: The Musical - Profound Ti...  ) from Three Hopes, which got me thinking about what other songs from FEW3H would work well, and this one came to mind...And then The Muses' Mire put out their own version before I could finish writing lol (   • The Ashen Demon - Cover with Lyrics |...  . But I still wanted to finish something, so here we go! One of the things I wanted to explore a bit is the differing thoughts of revenge vs protection Byleth likely goes through. Yes, she wants to avenge her father, and Dimitri is supporting her in that endeavor (because he's projecting a bit), but also Solon is someone putting her kids in danger, people she cares about (for once in her life).

Writing/singing notes:
"Lion": My intent for this is to have a couple of meanings. There's the obvious link to the Blue Lions and the royal family, of course. In Three Hopes, Duke Rufus has recurring nightmares of a lion about to eat him, and sees this as a parallel to Dimitri, calling him a beast to his face. "A lion's cub is still a lion." So when Dimitri is referring to himself as a lion, he's talking about being a beast, but when he calls Byleth the same, he's calling her part of his "pride" so to speak. Hope that comes through a bit. He's got that habit of seeing the best in everyone but the worst in himself ;-;

"A fish would climb a mountain": This is a reference to Cutelilpinapple's Profound Ties that Bind lyrics. Per their notes, "Basically Byleth’s version of the phrase “when pigs fly,” which is a phrase used to indicate something as impossible." I really like this and think it would be fun to have as a running line.

"Why they call me a Demon": Honestly this was the first bit to come to mind as I listened to this piece, before I decided where in the story the piece would fit. That's all lol.

"another step towards madness": so honestly I was a bit worried this might have been too much too soon, but considering this is after Remire village and his dialogue a second later...(I had to do a few takes cause I kept peaking the mic lol) yeah this is definitely taking it's toll on his poor little mind.

I'm also not a great voice for most of this cast, LMAO. This one was hard to write and sing, but I tried some different things, especially with Solon's voice. I've also never added the full cutscenes like I did here, but I hope utilizing those "sets the stage" so to speak. I'm not sure if it's much more than cringeworthy, but anything worth doing is worth doing poorly aha. I've got a couple more on the backburner, it's just been hard to find time and energy to record. I hate listening to myself XD I hope you enjoy!
