Lichen Planus (“Purple Skin Lesions”) | Causes, Pathophysiology, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Lichen Planus is an inflammatory dermatological condition involving lesions on the skin, mucous membranes and nails. There are a variety of proposed causes of this condition, including medications like ACE inhibitors and NSAIDs, and viruses like Hepatitis C. This condition is likely caused by an autoimmune mechanism, wherein there is abnormal activation of CD8 cytotoxic T cells. In this lesson, we discuss more about the causes of this condition, along with signs and symptoms, how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.
