New and startup nonprofit organizations often turn to grants as they think through funding for their organizations. This, however, creates a dilemma - how do you pay for a grant writer when you don't have funding yet? Due to this reason, many think that paying grant writers by commission is the solution, but it's a HUGE no-no. In this video, I break down the 4 main reasons you do not want to use commissions when hiring grant writers and how it's a bad idea to pay grant writers "out of the grant". When you're thinking of how to hire a grant writer, make sure you watch this video first! To be clear: you can use grant funding (if allowed by the funder) to pay for salaries for any staff or contractors but it has to be done after the fact.
