In today's episode of WWII History Today, we'll roll back the clock & take a look at some of the key events that shaped the outcome of the Second World War on this very day in history - December 1st.

Today's Major Events:

1934 - British Government orders new series of fighters from Supermarine company - these would ultimately become the Spitfire

1936 - German government requires all eligible young citizens to join Hitler Youth or League of German Girls

1940 - Werner Mölders scores his 55th aerial victory, a Hurricane, in fighting over England

1941 - Karl Jäger reports that SS units in Lithuania have killed nearly 100,000 Jews since July of that year

1941 - Japanese Emperor Hirohito gives final authorization for the attack on Pearl Harbor

1941 - the USS Yorktown (CV-10) is laid down in Virginia

1943 - US 7th Bombardment Group strikes Japanese targets in Burma

1943 - First P-51B Mustangs see action in the ETO

1945 - Final Japanese holdouts on Saipan surrender to US troops (90 days after the war ended)
