During my senior year of high school, I took an interest in the direction field diagrams we constructed in calculus class. First order differential equations are often expressed as the slope as a function of location, or dy/dx = f(x,y). A direction field is a plot that shows the slope of solutions to a differential equation as they pass through a grid of possible points. The slope at each location is represented by a slanted tick mark.

The direction field program parses expressions of f(x,y) and generates a direction field to help the user visualize the solutions to a differential equation. The user can adjust the window parameters and the number of slope tick marks that appear on the graph in the x- and y-direction. Clicking anywhere within the direction field causes the program to use the Euler method to render the solution that passes through the point clicked.
