Creating High Dynamic Range (HDR) images in Adobe Lightroom Classic can significantly enhance the visual impact of your photos by combining multiple exposures into a single image that captures a wider range of light and shadow details. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use the HDR Merge feature in Lightroom Classic to produce stunning HDR photographs.

Step 1: Capturing Photos in HDR
To start, you need a series of bracketed photos—typically, this means capturing three or more images at different exposure levels (normal, underexposed, and overexposed). Use a tripod to ensure that your camera remains steady and the images align correctly during the merge process.

Step 2: Importing Photos into Lightroom Classic
1. Open Lightroom Classic and import the bracketed photos into your library.
2. Navigate to the Library module to view your imported photos.

Step 3: Selecting Photos for HDR Merge
1. In the Library module, select the bracketed photos you wish to merge. You can do this by clicking on the first photo, then holding down the Shift key and clicking on the last photo in the sequence.
2. Ensure that the photos are correctly aligned and have no significant movement between shots, as this could affect the final HDR image.

Step 4: Merging Photos into HDR
1. Right-click on one of the selected photos and choose "Photo Merge" "HDR." Alternatively, you can go to the Photo menu at the top, select "Photo Merge," and then choose "HDR."
2. Lightroom Classic will then show you a preview of the HDR merge. Here, you'll encounter several options:
- Auto Align: Checks this option to let Lightroom correct any minor misalignments in the photos.
- Auto Settings: Applies Lightroom's auto tone adjustments to the merged HDR photo.
- Deghost Amount: If there are moving objects in your photos, deghosting helps remove ghost-like artifacts. You can choose from None, Low, Medium, or High, depending on the amount of movement between shots.
- Once you've chosen your settings, click "Merge" to create the HDR image.

Step 5: Editing the HDR Image
After the HDR merge is complete, you can further refine the image in the Develop module. Key adjustments include:
- White Balance: Adjust the temperature and tint to correct or enhance the overall color tone of the image.
- Exposure: Fine-tune the overall brightness of the image.
- Contrast: Increase or decrease contrast to add depth and dimension.
