It all started when a girl named Seema crossed the border to India to meet with her lover. What was supposedly an act of love was turned into a religious sentiment by some fanatics in Pakistan. What wrong did the girl do, that some religious fanatics decided to blow up a temple? During Pakistan’s Independence, the Hindu population comprised almost 20 percent but today, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan estimates it at 1.6 percent. This shows how a rise in fanaticism has led to a decline in the Hindu minority population in Pakistan.
Such an incident occurred in Pakistan on the 16th of July, where a temple in the Kashomore area of Sindh province was destroyed by a gang of dacoits.
. According to police reports,the gang used ""rocket launchers"" to attack the temple. The report also mentioned that the assailants attacked the small temple and adjoining homes belonging to Hindus in the same area.
SSP Irfan Sammo, who led the police unit that reached the scene, stated, ""The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday. They fired indiscriminately and fled when a police party reached the spot. We are conducting a search operation in the area."" He also additionally mentioned that the temple was operated by the Bagri community, which performed annual religious services here.
Fortunately, Dr. Suresh, a member of the Bagri community, said that the ""rocket launchers"" fired by the dacoits failed to explode, resulting in no loss of life. As of now, there is no definite figure for the number of attackers, but police officials have estimated that eight or nine gunmen were involved in the attack.
According to police reports, the attacks come days after dacoits in the Kashmore and Ghotki riverine areas threatened to attack Hindu places of worship and community members in retaliation for Seema Haider Jakhrani's PUBG love story.
Seema was arrested by Noida Police earlier this month for entering India illegally and staying in Greater Noida. Seema Haider is a Pakistani national who entered India illegally with her four children to be with her partner, whom she met through the game.
Taking to Twitter about the incident, The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) expressed deep concern over the worsening situation in the Kashmore and Ghotki districts of Sindh, where 30 members of the Hindu community, including women and children, have reportedly been held hostage by criminal gangs. The HRCP emphasized that such actions violated the basic principles of human rights and called for immediate action to ensure the safety and release of the hostages. ""Moreover, we have received disturbing reports that these gangs have threatened to attack the community's places of worship, using high-grade weapons,"" the commission said.
This incident occured less than 24 hours after the Mari Mata Temple, which is said to be more than 150 years old, was razed to the ground by bulldozers in the presence of a heavy contingent of police force.
Ram Nath Mishra Maharaj is the caretaker of the nearby Shri Punch Mukhi Hanuman Mandir. When asked by the Pakistani Newspaper - Dawn, Mishra said, ""They (the authorities) did it very early in the morning, and we were not informed that this was going to happen."" He further added that the bulldozers left the outer walls and the temple's main gate intact, but they demolished the entire inside structure. He said that the temple, which covered an area of about 400 to 500 square yards, had been the target of land grabbers and developers for years.
A senior police official of the local police station said that the temple was demolished as it had been declared a dangerous structure by the authorities.
Karachi, Pakistan has been a home to numerours ancient hindu temples. The Hindus constitute as the largest minority in Pakistan, with the majority of it residing in the Sindh Province.
