The Lowveld and Escarpment Fire Protection Association in Mpumalanga has urged citizens to refrain from making open fires, as the fire season is under way. The organisation says currently there are nine veld fires active in the lowveld part of the province. Authorities say at this stage they have managed to contain two of the nine fires.
