Pellucid marginal degeneration, PMD, corneal ectasia - A State of Sight #30

Описание к видео Pellucid marginal degeneration, PMD, corneal ectasia - A State of Sight #30

In pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD), the cornea progressively thins and changes shape, particularly in the lower cornea. This can cause a large degree of astigmatism and distort the vision. Initially patients with PMD may need glasses to correct their vision, but as the condition advances, rigid gas permeable contact lenses may be required to see clearly. In advanced stages, surgery may be needed to restore vision with a corneal transplant, collagen crosslinking, or other advanced corneal procedures. In this episode of A State of Sight, Isaac Porter, MD explains pellucid marginal degeneration and the options available for patients with the condition.
