George Michel was born in Cairo. He studied Arabic music extensively at the Cario Music Conservatory, one of the foremost schools of Oriental music in the area. He became a professor of music at the Conservatory. Professor Michel is considered to be one the foremost authorities of the Arabic music and he established reputation as one of the greatest Egyptian masters of the oud.
