Post season measurement of the deer population is important to help you make habitat and harvest management decisions in the upcoming year. By using trail camera traps and a little math after deer season is over is a great way to see where you stand. From this information, we can make the decision to lay off bucks next season, shoot more does, or not.
You can't manage what you don't measure.
The important deer population factors to measure are: sex ratio, fawn recruitment, buck ages, doe/fawn ratio and overall numbers per square mile.
These numbers should be measured after deer season is over since most likely, the bucks you see now will be there next fall.
By using bait when food is scarce will ensure all the deer in the area show up on camera to be counted.
