FORMER Chelsea striker Alexandre Pato is reportedly in talks with League Two side Colchester United regarding a potential takeover.

The 36-year-old was among a group of guests watching the club’s match against Fleetwood Town at the JobServe Stadium on Saturday.

He was also taken pitchside by chairman Robbie Cowling ahead of the 2-1 win.

The Daily Gazette reports that Pato has already held behind-the-scenes discussions with Cowling about the possibility of investing.

It is understood the chairman is actively looking to sell Colchester United to the right buyer.

As things stand, it is unclear if any takeover bid from Pato will be successful or what role he would have.

The striker played for some of the biggest clubs in the world at the height of his career.

After going pro at Brazilian side Internacional, he joined AC Milan in 2007 and spent six years in Italy.

During that time he scored 63 goals and provided 18 assists in 150 appearances.

Pato spent a short loan spell at Chelsea in 2016 but was limited to just two competitive games.

The striker earned 27 caps for BrazilCredit: PA:Empics Sport

His only goal came against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The striker was on loan at Chelsea from Brazilian side Corinthians.

He also played for Sao Paulo, Villarreal, Tianjin Tianhai and Orlando City before retiring last year.

In addition to his prolific club career, Pato scored 10 goals in 27 appearances for the Brazil national team.
