I love this exercise, It is working on a lot of muscles ( abs, legs, shoulders, calves) and I think it is excellent if you want to build muscles for the monofin.

I do it 2 times per week at the end of my legs day.
Do it slowly, A good form is crucial. If it is too hard, because of a lack of flexibility (keeping the feet together and flat while squatting up is not easy for many people), work on it. Do stretches. If the problem is the Weight, well... just take a lighter one.
