Описание к видео Exploring the Coral Reef's Twilight Zone | Luiz Rocha

Coral reefs are one of the most iconic, diverse, and threatened ecosystems on Earth, yet, the deeper portions of this habitat, which correspond to as much as two thirds of it, remain largely unexplored and unprotected.

Coral reef expert Luiz Rocha leads a team of highly trained and experienced scientists, and technical rebreather divers that are comprehensively exploring these deeper reefs for the first time. But this didn't come without challenges, and in this talk he will show how they successfully created the programme and share the stories behind some of their most spectacular discoveries.

Luiz Rocha is the Follett Chair of Ichthyology and co-Director of the Hope For Reefs Initiative at the California Academy of Sciences. He has published over 170 peer-reviewed articles, two books, and his work has been featured in many popular media outlets including. Currently his main area of work involves the exploration and conservation of little-known deep coral reefs throughout the tropics.
