At the heart of the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, the stone-carved deities have always been part of human life, bridging the divine and the earthly. Every day, over 15,000 devotees visit to pay homage and connect with their chosen gods in deeply personal and intimate ways.

The temple is said to house 33,000 deities, reflecting the 33,000 manifestations of Hinduism’s three principal gods: Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Protector, and Shiva the Destroyer and Renewed Life-Giver.
